History (2 of 2)
St John's church is a real "village" church in the sense that it is fully involved in the life of Batheaston.
As well as providing regular services and the pastoral offices of baptism, weddings and funerals, we offer a Carol Service and a Memorial Service which draw all sections of the community together.
The church is surrounded by a large and ancient burial ground, now closed to full burials. This is maintained by the local authority, BANES, and we are most grateful for this assistance.
So does the annual village fête, which is also organised by the church. There is a tradition of service by the church to the village, and institutions such as the Youth Club and the Coffee Shop were begun and are largely continued by church personnel.
